Bodyguard

In the west of South Africa, near Kruger National Park and Mozambique, Ian Brown found his calling twenty years ago when he started working at family-run Wayne Wagner Safaris. Since then, countless hunters have benefited from his experience and his affinity for nature.

Anyone who heads out into the bush in South Africa or Mozambique with professional hunter Ian Brown can tell he’s an absolute pro within minutes. Every move is perfect. Everything is well planned. There is never even a hint of stress. And while out on the hunt, he teaches his clients an incredible amount about the flora and fauna, without overloading them with information. This makes hunting days and two- or three-day tours through Kruger National Park all the more enjoyable. The game reserve also gives visitors the impression of an untamed Africa, even today. Both because of the wildlife and the seemingly endless expanses of savanna.

“When hunting, you cannot predict every situation. So it’s vital to always be alert and ready to take action in the worst-case scenario.”

This unparalleled feeling of entering untouched habitats can also be experienced in large parts of Mozambique, where Wayne Wagner Safaris organizes and provides guides for buffalo hunts. Ian Brown is in his element here, especially when it comes to giving his guests what they came for. As hunting is anything but predictable, knowing that Ian Brown always has a watchful eye over the situation is a remarkably calming feeling. As is the fact that he knows his way around his R8 in .500 Jeffery caliber… In case the worst were to happen.

“The R8 enables me to fire three .500 Jeffery caliber shots in a flash. It’s like having a life insurance policy.”
